Preying Mantis
The boys were outside playing and found this huge preying mantis. They tried capturing it with buckets and were finally successful -- when it flew away into the tree in the front yard. They clamored for the tree with all their energies and came so close to capturing the preying mantis. It then flew toward another tree in a neighbors yard. In mid flight it was captured by a small bird who promptly took it to the backyard tree and started eating it. A large crow then came swooping in and ate the bird that was eating the preying mantis. It was disgusting . . .

Where Has Summer Gone?
It seems like yesterday that Matthew just got out of school. Now, we are counting the days until he goes back. (Just a reminder . . . a loud screaming noise will be heard from this epicenter on Thursday, August 21st . . . his first FULL day back to school!)
I don't know how it has been for all of you, but I could not get my act together this Summer! I felt like a chicken with my head cut off . . . running here and going there and not getting anything accomplished. I think when school gets started I will be able to get some of my projects done and quickly! Yahooooo! ( . . . and I'm really looking forward to the soap operas and bon bons . . . LOL!)
We're going to visit Jeanie, Garrett, Solomon and Jerry for a night . . . it's been so long. Then we are headed over to watch Larry and Lori get sealed in the St. Louis Temple.
I may be on the run again, but going to the Temple is going to bring some peace to my somewhat hectic life.
Have a good one!

Hairspray!
We watched this movie today and Matthew really enjoyed the singing and dancing. It was interesting trying to explain to him when he asked questions:
"Mom, what does 'negro' mean?"
"What is integration?"
"Why does that woman have a man's voice?"
(John Travolta didn't fool him!)
Matthew calls black people "brown" . . . "Mom, that's what color their skin is!" I've tried explaining that one over and over again.
I love his innocence and I want him to love all kinds of people regardless of the color of their skin, shape or size.
I was very happy that his Kindergarten class was made up of a lot of different nationalities and cultures. That is the one thing I miss about the East Coast. I would not have enjoyed many things had I not moved to Maryland and experienced so much. I LOVE Japanese food! I love that I learned to make Korean dishes! I loved experiencing foods from so many different countries and getting to know people from different countries. I want Matthew to have the same opportunities and not limit himself.
I will have to say that Bloomington introduced me to Thai food!!! My very favorite!!!
