Remember last January . . . the one in 2010, not a couple of months ago? I started my Julie/Christy Challenge.
I know some of you laughed and maybe choked on what you were eating . . . but I took the challenge.
My goal was to make her Top Ten Most Viewed Recipes on her website for 2009 in 2010. I did change a few . . . as my family doesn't drink coffee and I had made some of the items. But, my family enjoyed Baked Macaroni and Cheese, Monkey Bread, Homemade Banana Pudding, Melt in Your Mouth Doughnuts, Elvis Presley Cake, Grandma Lucy's Pimento Cheese, One Slow Cooker Recipe – 2 Meals, My Mother’s Southern Hoe Cake Recipe, Fried Green Tomatoes, Apple Fritters, Holiday Fruit Salad, Chicken Stew, Southern Chicken and Dumplings, Pumpkin Crumb Cake, Buttermilk Biscuits and Chocolate Gravy.
But, dag nab it (Warning: I just finished watching a program with Larry the Cable Guy and my Southern accent has slipped in.) . . . I didn't make it. Yep, I failed. I only had three or four more recipes to do: Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix and Snowman Soup Kits, Homemade Cinnabuns, Hollie Jollies -- Christmas Candy Recipes on a Budget and Crock Pot Apple Butter.
Now I'm not going to fret . . . because even though I didn't make those items under my deadline . . . they will be made. But let me tell you what got in the way . . . Christy posting new recipes!
I'd look at my list and then she'd bring up . . . Shortcut Tater Salad . . . and that's what I had been hankering for that day. That happened more times than I can count! We have also enjoyed Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Dirty Rice, 2 Minute English Muffin Breakfast, Pecan Pie Muffins, Quick & Easy Beef Stroganoff, King Ranch Casserole, Omelet's Made Easy, Slow Cooker Meatloaf, Bama Steak Sandwiches, Fried Cabbage, Mama's Strawberry Cobbler, Double Chocolate Chip Muffins . . . and tons more that I can even put down.
David doesn't need to call home and say: "Honey, what's for dinner?" He just needs to head on over to Christy's site and find out!
I feel so blessed as to have found Southernplate.com in more ways than one. I came across it right after my Mom passed away. The recipes, the stories, the comments . . . have all brought such peace and comfort into my life.
Thank you so much Christy!! Can't wait for your next book! Meanwhile . . . I'll be trying out more recipes! But the boys want me to retire the camera . . . it gets old having someone take your picture as you shove food in your mouth!

Julie! You cook! This seems like such a completely normal thing that I don't do anymore! I was looking at your blog and the cute things about Matthew and your thoughts on life, and remembering what it was like to be 100% mom. I'm afraid that I've lost my focus. My job this year completely took over my life. I loved it, but I've got to get some focus back so that my kids can still have a mother. I miss you!
Nice to have a little glimpse of your life through your blog.
Take care,
Karen T.
